The TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment) process can feel overwhelming, but we’re here to clarify some of the most common misconceptions and questions. We can’t wait to have you as part of our team, so let’s bust some myths and make this process a little easier to understand.
👉 Myth: Everything will change the moment the transfer happens.
On day one, your role, pay, hours, and conditions will remain the same. If any changes are planned, they will follow a formal consultation process, just like they do now.
👉 Myth: I can choose not to transfer.
If your role is eligible for TUPE, it will automatically transfer to HCRG. If you’d prefer not to, you can raise your concerns with us during the consultation period.
👉 Myth: Non-NHS organisations can’t offer NHS pensions.
Thanks to the Fair Deal policy, you’ll keep your NHS Pension and employer contributions for as long as you pay into it. Nothing changes here!
👉 Myth: There will be immediate job cuts.
Our focus is on safely transferring services, not making redundancies. If changes do happen as part of the transformation, we will follow a formal consultation process and work with you on available options.
👉 Myth: These won’t carry over.
Your current agreements and adjustments will transfer with you, and we can explore with you upon transfer that these continue to be fully supportive and in line with our Working Flexibly approach.
👉 Myth: Existing apprenticeships or career development opportunities won’t be supported.
We’re big supporters of learning and development! We’ll work with you to transfer any ongoing training and offer new opportunities for career progression.
👉 Myth: I’ll lose my perks and benefits after the transfer
Perks like the Blue Light Card will still be available, and your annual leave, including any increases based on length of service, will transfer with you.
👉 Myth: Everything about the services will change on day one.
Services will transfer as they are. Any changes to structure, hours, or processes will be part of longer-term transformation plans and will involve you in the discussions.
👉 Myth: I’ll have to figure these things out myself.
These details are being planned. For example, work laptops and phones will be replaced with new ones, and uniform needs will be managed in line with NHS frameworks. We’ll keep you informed every step of the way!
We know the TUPE process can raise questions, and we’re here to support you. Whether it’s about your role, pay, or what comes next, don’t hesitate to ask using the form at the bottom of the Welcome Portal. Together, we’ll make this transition as smooth as possible.
